Excursions and incursions are an important extension of learning at UC High School Kaleen, providing students with opportunities to connect classroom learning with authentic experiences, specialist expertise, community organisations and the world beyond school. Excursions occur external to the school campus and may include curriculum-based field trips, performances, sporting events, cultural experiences, industry visits, camps and other educational opportunities. These experiences are intentionally designed to enrich learning, build student engagement and provide opportunities that cannot always be replicated within the classroom.
Incursions occur on the UCHSK campus but involve a change to students’ usual learning time or regular program. They may involve visiting presenters, workshops, performances, wellbeing programs, specialist providers or other targeted learning experiences. While students remain at school, incursions can impact scheduled classes and therefore require the same thoughtful planning and communication as external activities. Across both excursions and incursions, our focus is on ensuring experiences are purposeful, inclusive and accessible, complementing the curriculum while creating meaningful opportunities for students to learn, connect and grow.
