SoSE
In Year 7 and Year 8, all students pursue a common course. In Year 9 and Year 10, students select units related to their interests and needs. Some elective units, such as Road Ready, are only offered to students in Year 10.
A wide range of texts and source materials are used in all units. The focus is on deep learning, skill development and genuine understanding of the concepts being explored. Teaching and learning strategies, explicit course content and assessment details are provided in each unit outline.
The SoSE units aim to provide a supportive and rich learning environment for students of all abilities. Opportunities are given for students to respond in intellectual, creative and physical ways. The content and processes of learning are negotiated between teacher and students.
Language development, research skills and presentation techniques are integrated within the scope and framework of each unit.
