Library
In an information rich society, students need to become information literate in order to become independent thinkers & lifelong learners. Information literacy involves students developing their information skills, literacy & study skills & information & communication technology (ICT) skills, all of which are integrated across the curriculum.
The Kaleen High School Library plays a key role in supporting the school’s curriculum & its commitment to information literacy. To achieve this it provides access to:
- traditional print resources, including an extensive fiction collection and up to date reference materials
- online resources through the Library and Media Centre’s myclasses homepage
- emerging technologies, such as the smartboard
- and excellent ICT facilities.
Environment
The Library is a bright and cheerful environment and all students are encouraged to use the facilities. High interest reading material and popular series fiction is available and students are able to make suggestions for book purchases easily through the Myclasses homepage.
Often students will relax at lunchtime reading a magazine or will join with friends in playing a game of chess or other board games.
The 15 student computers are always popular for research, wordprocessing or checking and sending emails.
Our reading room is also nearing completion and soon students will be able to use this new facility.
